ESTIMATE INSTRUCTIONS

1.) Square footage is the amount of floor space you have under a roof inside or outside of      your house. Just figure the length of the room by the width. Do not count multiple floors.

2.) Enter the number of layers you have that need to be removed, or enter 0 if you would like      to install a new roof over the existing. Note most cities allow only two layers.

3.) The steepness of the roof is determined by the amount of rise in relation to the amount of     run and is expressed in terms as 4/12 pitch, 6/12 pitch etc. Click here to see a diagram to
help figure the pitch of your roof. If your roof is multi-pitch just enter an average pitch.

4.) How close can we get a dumpster to the house? On a scale of 1-5 , 1 being very close in      the driveway next to the house. 5 being out in the street far from the house. This number
indicates the degree of difficulty in cleaning the job-site.

5.)"Starts" are the number of times the shingles will have to be installed on another section of      roof that is not in a straight contiguous line with the previous "start". A two sided gable      roof with no valleys or dormers has 2 "starts". Click here for help.

6.) Architectural shingles are installed on about 90% of the homes we roof. They are well     worth the additional cost. The upcharge is all in the shingle and there are no additional     labor charges. Click here.

7.) Vents are usually installed at a rate of 1 per 300 square feet of attic floor space.
Click here for more info on all vent types.

8.) Many older homes have 3/8 inch plywood and really should have all new sheathing      installed. Many of the real old homes (80 plus years old) have wood shingles and spaced      1 x 6 deck boards. These homes must have new sheathing installed to span the spaces in      the deck boards.
