What’s the difference in asphalt and fiberglass?

All composition shingles are made with asphalt. The difference is the mat, which is inside of the shingle. The mat  holds everything together. Inside of a “fiberglass” shingle there is a spun fiberglass mat and inside an “asphalt” shingle there is what is called an organic mat. The organic mat is very similar to  a piece of cardboard. Both types of shingles are made with asphalt, the difference is what the asphalt is attached to.
